Aluminum shafts are the most commonly used and widely distributed of all metal shafts. These shafts are of medium durability. Available lengths are: micro, short extra-short, medium, in-between, and long. Both 2BA and 1/4 BSF threads are available. Aluminum shafts are the least expensive of all the metal shafts.
Aluminum and all other metal shafts have three shortcomings - They will loosen off because metal-to-metal fits have this inherent quality. The only cures are rubber 0-rings (shaft washer) or Teflon thread tape. They will bend especially after bounce-outs. You will have to regularly check them for straightness. If bent, they must be straightened or discarded. The prongs will bend: Robin hooding is the primary cause. One solid hit will damage one or all of them. Bending them back into form can be done only once or twice. After that they will simply break off.

Aluminum shafts in their natural color. This is the least expensive of the aluminum shafts.

Anodized Aluminum
When natural aluminum shafts are given color or anodized they are called Anodized Aluminum shafts or colored aluminum shafts. They are no different with respect to either composition or durability. The objective of the anodized shaft is appearance. The anodized aluminums come in different colors.

When the anodized or colored aluminum shafts are given pin stripes, re-grooved and additional cutting are made they are given different names by the distributors and manufacturers such as Colormaster, Robson’s brand of an anodized aluminum with pinstriped grooves, other names are Fiesta, Tiger etc..

When anodized or colored aluminum shafts are given diamond cut type of etching they come again in different names by distributors and manufacturers. The Robson brands are the Galaxy.
